Free science project template
Walk through a science fair project step by step: question, hypothesis, materials, method, results and conclusion. Sample experiment on which drinks stain teeth included.
What's in this template
Slide 1: Which drink stains teeth the most?
- 12 eggs, four drinks and 72 hours. Grape juice won, and not in a good way.
Slide 2: Question and hypothesis
- Question: which drink stains teeth most in 3 days?
- Hypothesis: if eggs soak in coffee, they will stain most
- Why: eggshells are hard and white, a lot like tooth enamel
Slide 3: Materials and variables
- Materials
- 12 white eggs, hard-boiled
- 12 clear plastic cups
- Coffee, cola, grape juice and water
- A colour chart from 1 (white) to 10 (dark)
- Variables
- Changed: the drink
- Measured: stain score from 1 to 10
- Kept the same: cup, 200 ml, time and room
Slide 4: Procedure
- Soaked 3 eggs in each drink, 200 ml per cup
- Left them on the kitchen counter for 72 hours
- Rinsed each egg and scored it against the chart
- Asked 2 classmates to score them too, then averaged
Slide 5: Grape juice stained the most
- 8.7 Grape juice, average score
- 7.3 Coffee
- 5.0 Cola
- 1.0 Water (the control)
Slide 6: Conclusion
- My hypothesis was not supported: grape juice won
- Drinks with strong dark colour stain the most
- Cola left the shell feeling rough, not just stained
- Next time: brush half the eggs to test toothpaste
Slide 7: Thank you! Any questions?
- Lucas Bennett · Grade 7 · Mr. Ortiz’s science class
